ABOUT THE AUXILIARY
The American Legion Auxiliary was established in 1920. Today, the Auxiliary is the most influential patriotic women's organization in the world, but their success has not changed their purpose. They join with The American Legion to serve God and this Country as a family and it's a bond will never be broken.
Membership in the Auxiliary is now open to Legionnaires' wives, mothers, daughters, sisters, granddaughters and grandmothers.
With close a million members nation wide, the Auxiliary gives tens of thousands of hours to its communities and to veterans, and manages hundreds of volunteer programs. It raises money to support its own programs plus charities familiar to most of us. All of this is accomplished though the unselfishness of volunteers.
The mission of the American Legion Auxiliary is:
To support the American Legion programs for Veterans Children, and Community
To provide for today's needs, while being advocates for a brighter future
To advance the understanding of patriotism and responsibility of citizenship
To promote individual integrity and family values
To ensure that, as volunteers, we continue to be the leaders in all that is good in this nation today, tomorrow, and for generations to come, through serving others, not self.
YOUTH PROGRAMS
Junior Members
The Auxiliary has no age limits, through the Junior Members program, it prepares the Auxiliary's young members to carry on with the work of the organization. In this way it assures the organization's growth and continuity by teaching the fundamentals of leadership and service to future members at the Unit, District, Department and National levels.
Girls State
Each year Unit 68 Auxiliary chooses six High School Junior girls to go to state. This event is held in Ellensburg, Washington. For one week these young women are given the opportunity to experience the workings of State and Federal government. Also at these sessions, these young women learn about leadership, patriotism, self-worth and confidence, which helps prepare them to take their places as productive and successful members of our society.
